Empowering africa's children online
Executive secretary’s address
Dear visitors,
On behalf of the african child online safety alliance (acosa), I am delighted to welcome you to our platform—a hub of collaboration, advocacy, and innovation dedicated to safeguarding the digital well-being of children across africa.
In today’s rapidly evolving digital world, children are navigating opportunities and risks like never before. At acosa, we believe that every african child deserves the chance to explore the digital landscape safely and confidently. This mission unites us as a collective of like-minded organizations across the continent, working together to empower children, families, and communities with the tools, knowledge, and protections needed to thrive in the online world.

Established November 2024
Champions of child safety
ACOSA is a coalition of organizations committed to protecting and empowering African children in the digital age. Our mission is to ensure that every child can navigate the opportunities of the online world safely and confidently, free from harm and exploitation. By uniting civil society, governments, educators, and technology experts, we aim to foster collaboration, amplify advocacy efforts, and deliver innovative solutions tailored to Africa’s unique challenges.
Why ACOSA?
With over 60% of africa’s population under 25 years old, the digital space is increasingly shaping the lives of children and young people. However, gaps in digital literacy, limited protective policies, and lack of awareness leave many children vulnerable to online harm. Acosa was founded to bridge these gaps and create a unified platform for tackling online risks, ensuring a secure digital future for all african children.
Together, we are building an africa where children can embrace the opportunities of the digital age while staying safe, supported, and empowered.
Join us in our mission to protect Africa’s digital future—one child at a time.

Our story
The african child online safety alliance (acosa) was born out of a collective vision to create a safer digital environment for children across africa. As internet access expands across the continent, african children are increasingly engaging with digital spaces, bringing both opportunities for growth and exposure to significant online risks. Recognizing the need for a unified and proactive approach to address these challenges, acosa was established as a pan-african coalition to protect and empower children in the digital age.
Our journey began at the africa child online protection summit, organized by the watoto watch network in november 2024 in addis ababa, ethiopia. This landmark event brought together stakeholders from across africa, including governments, civil society organizations, educators, policymakers, and technology experts. The summit served as a platform to assess the state of child online protection in africa and to explore innovative and collaborative solutions tailored to the continent’s diverse contexts.
