Internet Penetration in Ghana: Where We Are and What Comes Next

In the last decade, Ghana has made significant strides in internet connectivity, becoming one of West Africa’s digital frontrunners. But gaps remain—and how we close them will shape the country’s progress in education, innovation, and digital rights.

Current Landscape

According to the Ghana Chamber of Telecommunications:
– As of 2024, over 23 million Ghanaians have access to mobile internet.
– Internet penetration is estimated at 68.2%, a steep climb from just 25% in 2013.
– Urban areas like Accra and Kumasi boast high-speed 4G networks, while remote regions still rely on limited coverage.

Despite these gains, affordability, digital literacy, and infrastructure challenges continue to leave many communities behind.

Why Connectivity Matters

Reliable internet access is no longer a luxury—it’s a lifeline. It connects rural students to virtual classrooms, helps entrepreneurs reach new markets, and allows health professionals to access vital data.

For underserved communities, especially youth and women, closing the connectivity gap means unlocking potential.

Our Contribution
